More about the show…
Music & Film: Emmalie Tello will perform “The Sirens” by Judd GREENSTEIN, a piece for solo bass clarinet based on a poem by the same name. “The Sirens” explores the extreme range of the instrument, juxtaposing seductive highs and stately lows that entice the listener until they fade away. Presented by Luis Mercado, Kaija SAARIAHO’s “Sept Papillons” is a collection of fleeting miniatures for solo ‘cello that end as quickly as they begin, evoking the transient qualities of butterflies. Making his debut as a composer on an NYsoundCircuit show, Adam BEARD performs his own work, “Timestreams” for percussion, which is an exploration of multiple interactions between polyrhythmically related layers of time, defining several ever-changing soundscapes that are rearranged to form a colorful narrative. Russell KOTCHER also steps in as composer, producing a soundscape with images by Scott Miller BERRY in “Ablation”, which explores the onslaught of melting glaciers at a time of rapid climate change. Realized by Jackie Traish on this show, "Lipstick" by JACOBTV is a 3-movement work for flute/alto flute and soundtrack, which features audio clips from different American talk shows and an interview with Billie Holiday.
Wearable Art: Nana YaaSerwaah Akuoku is a NYC based WearableArt Designer and visual-Artist of Ghanaian heritage and American nationality. Akuoku, a 2-time Alumna of the Fashion Institute of Technology; is acknowledged for her conceptual wearables that obscure boundaries between “traditional” art, fashion, and technology. She will present “Life is a journey I of IV”, which is the first release of a 4-part artistic performance mini video series showcasing her wearable art. The series fuses fashion, art, digital media, music, and pop culture to unveil each wearable Artwork. Over the 4 episodes; “Life is a journey” shares the experiences that inspired the works. Part I of IV begins in 2020 and as the series succeeds; it leads the viewer on a journey toward the Beginning.
